Sabina Akhter, a resident of the city’s Double Mooring area, filed the case in the court of Additional Chief Chittagong Metropolitan Magistrate Sarkar Hasan Shahriar on Monday. The court has ordered the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of the police to investigate, said the plaintiff’s lawyer Afzal Hossain. The complaint states that on July 22, the plaintiff’s brother Zakir Hossain was taken away by the DB police. Later, two lakh taka was demanded from him. But he was beaten up when he said he could not pay the money. At one stage, the plaintiff went to the city’s Mansurabad DB office after receiving the news. There, the accused told the plaintiff that they had received 3,000 Yaba from his brother. If he gave one lakh taka, they would file a case with 400 Yaba. To release him completely, it would take two lakh taka. Later, the plaintiff discussed the matter with his brother’s wife. But since it was not possible to pay that much money, the matter was reported to two DB policemen. Angry after not receiving the money, they filed a case under the Narcotics Control Act at Doublemooring Police Station on July 23, showing the 400 yaba pills recovered.

Police said that Zakir is an accused in a drug case filed at Sadarghat Police Station in the city in 2019.

When asked, Additional Deputy Commissioner of City Police (Media) Mahmuda Begum told Prothom Alo that anyone can file a complaint. The court has ordered an investigation, and the truth will come out in the investigation. If the investigation proves him guilty, the higher authorities will take action.
